DragonCon Final Thoughts

Well, I have to say I had fun. Highlight was catching George Lowe on Sunday. He’s a very funny guy. Cartoon Network needs to bring back Space Ghost Coast to Coast. Lots of good costumes. Easy access to booze (always a plus). Meeting the Mouse Guard creator, Bob Burdon and Don Rosa was great as well.

Man, does this con need someone with better organizational skills. So, I signed up for next year at the con. By doing so, you get to register at 50% off. Now to me, that is a no brainer. So, I paid with my credit card and the woman behind the counter tells me that I MUST keep my receipt as they keep NO RECORD of if I paid for my registration. WTF??? REALLY?? Evert heard of a data base? You have a computer, right? I was constantly hearing during the con about how they were worried that Comicon was beating them in attendance, etc. Gee, I wonder why….

Folks, create a data base. Keep records of who pay you what. Easy to do. Also, mail out the damn badges. Really. FedEx them to the people who preregister. Hell, charge them and extra $5 or $10 to cover the cost. That way people won’t be waiting 90 minutes to pick up their badges.

Someone at DragonCon really needs to think.

DragonCon Wrap Up

Yes, I know there is still one more day, just not for me. I made up my mind to get of out town before the maddening crowds hit the roads. I am beat. Good thing I took a couple extra days of vacation to relax, do laundry, etc.

Anyway, Sunday I sat in on a “Panel” with George Lowe (voice of Space Ghost). He’s a very funny guy. Too bad I didn’t have my cell phone as he was recording voice mail answering messages for people (Hi! I’m Space Ghost! So and so isn’t here right now….). That would have been cool.

After that to a panel discussing the changes being made to Sherlock Holems in the upcoming movie…..eh. More like these wrtiters trying to sell you on their stuff.

Picked up the second Mouse Guard book. Read most of the first and am impressed. Very good stuff. Finally met and had picture taken with Bob Burdon (creator of The Flaming Carrot, Mystery Men, etc). He’s a good guy and I’ve been reading his stuff for many years.

I’ll do a final thoughts/ wrap up post later today.  Now, breakfast.

Dragon Con Day 2

Well, I had planned for a relaxing day of shopping, picture taking and wondering around. That was exactly what happened. Got there in time for the parade. Lots of Storm Troopers, Pirates, Steam Punk and Dr. Who. Some very nice costumes this year (I’ll try to have my pictures up on Monday).

Lots of dealers here. Great comics section with some very good artists. Good to see George Perez in attendance as well as Don Rosa (whom I had never met). I bought the first Mouse Guard book as well as the RPG from the writer/ artist David Petersen (Very good guy. Was very interested that I had discovered his comic thru the RPG).

Is it me or are there alot of Green Lantern costumes this year? I’ve counted 8 different GLs so far. LOTS of Steam Punk costumes here (Unhallowed Metropolis influence?).

I sat in on the “Space Ghost” presentation and watched some indy films. Tomorrow will be my last day as I want to avoid the Labor Day traffic.

DragonCon Day 1 Pt.1

Up early to get my act together and take Marta into downtown Atlanta for the con. Looks like I goofed/ had good luck in that my first game isn’t till 1pm today. That will allow me to ease into the con, maybe get by the dealers room for a bit and get some pictures.

Looking forward to meeting the guys from Arc Dream during the con. Planning on going to the Cinematic Titanic show/ signing tonight. More thoughts, reviews and pictures to follow.
